Departure Point: Ribble Steam Railway & Museum (PR2 2PD) - Free car parking available.
What's Included: A return steam train journey through the former Preston Docks, with a delicious portion of fish & chips (or alternative), drink and sweet treat to enjoy on board. Plus entry to the railway museum.
Dogs: Pre-booked dogs are permitted (must be kept off seats). Maximum of one dog per train.

Climb aboard a heritage steam train at the Ribble Railway & Museum and step back in time as you travel along Preston Docks. 

Before your departure, your freshly prepared meal will be collected, ready for you to enjoy during your 35-minute round trip. Alongside your chosen dish, you'll also receive a drink and a flapjack or biscuit. Each booking receives its own private table, with bar drinks available to purchase on board. 

After your journey, explore the museum at your leisure - highlights include a restored travelling post office carriage, vintage steam locomotives and historic freight vehicles.

Points to Note:

  • Tables are arranged in fours. Groups of two may be seated with another party of two. 
  • Couples will be seated side by side and will travel forward in one direction of the journey and backward in the other.
  • We do offer single tickets; however, these can only be purchased by contacting our enquiries team at [email protected] or by calling 01629 380600.
  • A Family Ticket includes two adults and two children. Children are classed as aged 3 to 11 inclusive. Children under 3 travel free, however they are not provided with a meal and must sit on an adult's knee.

Unfortunately, we are unable to offer gluten-free or dairy-free options on this journey. All meals are provided by a third-party local fish & chip shop therefore, we cannot guarantee the absence of allergens.

We're delighted you are considering celebrating a special occasion with us! 

Please note that access to your seats on board is usually limited before departure, as the train spends only a short time in the station between trips. 

You're welcome to bring decorations to display in your compartment or on your table. For safety and preservation reasons, only Blue Tack is permitted - no tape or pins please. 

If you'd like to bring a birthday cake, that is absolutely fine; however, candles are not permitted on board. 

To make changes or cancel your booking, please contact us as soon as possible either by email at [email protected] or by phone on 01629 380600.

We are able to make amendments or refund without charge until the Monday prior to your trip at 23:59, if you have notified us in writing or spoken to a Visitor Support Officer by this time.

Between that time and 24 hours before your trip (usually several days), we can amend or refund your booking with a £25 administrative charge, helping us as a small business cover costs like food which might already have been ordered.

There are no toilets on board the train. However, toilet facilites, including accessible toilets, can be found at the railway museum. 

Open Seating: 

  • Groups of four will be given their own table. If your group is larger than four, we will seat you across the aisle from each other so you can still sit close together and enjoy the event as a group. 

Compartment Seating: 

  • The number of people a compartment ticket covers is the maximum allowed in that compartment. We do allow one additional young child or infant, beyond the stated maximum, however you must add an infant or child ticket when making your booking.
  • For larger groups, we recommend booking open-style seating to be seated together, or purchasing multiple compartments. While we can't guarantee it, we'll do our best to allocate compartments next to each other if they are booked in the same order. 

The Ribble Steam Railway & Museum offers step-free access from the car park onto the platforms. Ramps are available to assist boarding the train. 

Wheelchair spaces are available at certain times, so please contact us in advance to discuss availability. 

We encourage all visitors with mobility requirements to get in touch with us beforehand, so we can ensure your journey is as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. 

Yes - a bottle of water is included with your meal. However, most journeys also have a licensed bar on board where you can purchase additional drinks. There is also a cafe at the station, and you're welcome to bring any items you've purchased there with you on board.
