Scenic Vintage Train Travel to the Seaside with Fish & Chips (Yorkshire)

Event Summary
Experience the beauty of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park from the comfort of a beautifully restored vintage train. Depart from the popular town of Pickering, home of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway with its overall roof and period features, for a journey through the rolling hills and valleys. At some 18 miles in length, the railway is one of Britain's biggest heritage railways. You'll call briefly at quaint stations along the route, including Goathland which has often featured in productions on the big and small screen before proceeding to Grosmont. From here, your heritage train continues for a further 6 miles on the main line railway to the top seaside destination of Whitby.
After arriving in Whitby, you will have around 1hr45 minutes of your own free time! The station is close to the sea front with all of the traditional seaside amenities, harbour and beach.
When it is time to return, you'll be able to enjoy a delicious portion of traditional fish & chips (or alternative) at your seat on board the train as it makes it's way back to Pickering through the National Park once more.

Frequently Asked Questions
Your journey is scheduled to be partly hauled by a steam locomotive and partly by a heritage diesel locomotive. This varies according to the railway's published timetable but may commonly be:
- Pickering to Gromont by steam locomotive and Grosmont to Whitby by heritage diesel locomotive on your outbound journey
- Whitby to Picking by heritage diesel locomotive on your return
The North Yorkshire Moors Railway runs through a National Park and takes it's responsibility for the local environment seriously. In periods of long warm dry spells, steam locomotives may pose a heightened risk of fires to the local moorland. The railway monitor this dilligently during the summer months.
In these instances, the railway may substitute the steam locomotive portion of the journey with a heritage diesel locomotive.
Should this situation arise, Fox & Edwards Events will seek to notify booked visitors as soon as possible. Your booking will still go ahead however we may, at our discretion, offer a complementary steam train journey at another date.
This is as a variation to our normal Steam Guarantee in our Terms & Conditions.
The heritage trains at Whitby share the tracks with normal commuter trains on the National Rail Network and therefore have a strict timetable to keep.
Visitors must ensure they are back at the station in good time for the return departure time as the train cannot wait for you.
Should you miss the train, visitors will need to make their own arrangements to get back to Pickering. No refunds or recompense will be made where visitors miss the train.
The platform at Pickering is the old fashioned lower height and a step is provided to aid boarding the train.
