- The Tanfield Railway is the World's oldest railway and uses authentic Victorian wooden carriages. Most journeys feature a traditional private compartment which feature bench seating in the original way. On particular departures, it may be possible to upgrade to include a table in a shared open style vehicle, subject to availability. The trains at the Tanfield Railway offer a fantastic insight into train travel in the Victorian era but do not feature modern day comforts that we may be accustomed to.
