Saturday 16th & Sunday 17th May 2026

As part of their relaunch celebrations in May 2026, Fox & Edwards Events are teaming up with the Great Central Railway Nottingham to bring journeys behind the special guest locomotive LNER Peppercorn A1 60163 'Tornado'. Don't miss your chance to ride behind this celebrity locomotive from Ruddington which is appearing alongside the visit of the legendary 'Flying Scotsman'!

Step aboard at Nottingham Transport Heritage Centre's Ruddington Fields station for a return journey along the northern section of the Great Central Railway to Loughborough and back travelling through the pretty countryside route. Along the way, you'll experience the sights, sounds and atmosphere of riding behind this powerful guest locomotive.

The locomotive, which was build brand new in 2008 but inspired by original LNER designs, is operating alongside the popular annual Model Railway Exhibition at Nottingham Transport Heritage Centre, where there are layouts, displays and traders covering over 10,000 sq ft of space. Our tickets include a return journey behind 'Tornado' and entry to this exhibition.

Iconic locomotive 'Flying Scotsman' will be on display during this weekend and will be available at the station for ticket holders to have the opportunity of visiting the footplate too!

Tickets include:

  • A return steam train journey from Ruddington Fields to Rushcliff Halt via Loughborough, hauled by visiting locomotive 'Tornado' approximately 20 miles in length.
  • Entry to the annual Nottingham Transport Heritage Centre Model Railway Exhibition (open 10:00 till 17:00 Sat and 10:00 till 16:00 Sun)
  • The opportunity to visit the footplate of legendary locomotive 'Flying Scotsman' which will be on display at the station.

Ticket holders will be booked on to a specific train departure time of their choice and are then free to access the Model Railway Exhibition and visit the footplate of 'Flying Scotsman' at any time they choose on that day.
