Steam Train Travel with Cream Tea Gift Vouchers (Somerset)
Event Summary
You can now buy a gift voucher for our 2026 season - the perfect Christmas present! Specific dates for these journeys will be able to book from January, with trips running on a variety of dates from March to October.
Let them experience Britain's longest standard-guage heritage railway. A 23-mile steam train journey from Bishops Lydeard to the coastal town of Minehead.
They'll settle into their seat as the train steams through rolling countryside and stretches of Somerset coastline. On arrival at Minehead, they'll have time to enjoy the station, admire the locomotive against the seafront backdrop and browse the Buffer Stop Shop for gifts or the Readers Halt second-hand bookshop.
On the return journey, they can indulge in a traditional British cream tea served to your seat including scones with jam & clotted cream, accompanied by unlimited tea or coffee.
Example Timings:
- Morning departures: Depart from Bishops Lydeard at 10:15, arrive at Minehead at 11:35. Depart from Minehead at 12:20 with cream team, arrive back at 13:35.
- Afternoon departures: Depart from Bishops Lydeard at 14:25, arrive at Minehead 15:50. Depart from Minehead 16:35 with cream tea, arrive back at 17:50.

- Children's tickets are not available to purchase on this service.

All altercations or cancellations must be made no later than the Tuesday prior to your departure, as we begin preparing for your arrival after this time. Unfortunately, once this deadline has passed, we are unable to make any further changes.
We can provide gluten-free and dairy-free alternatives if notified in advance. Please let us know your dietary requirements by the Tuesday before your travel date to ensure we can accomodate you.
There is no on board catering facilities. There is also a cafe at the departure station, and you're welcome to bring any items you've purchased there with you on board.
There are limited toilet facilities available on board the train. However, the main toilets, including accessible facilities, are located at both Bishops Lydeard and Minehead Stations.

Please note that access to your seats on board is usually limited before departure, as the train spends only a short time in the station between trips.
You're welcome to bring decorations to display in your compartment or on your table. For safety and preservation reasons, only Blue Tack is permitted - no tape or pins please.
If you'd like to bring a birthday cake, that is absolutely fine; however, candles are not permitted on board.
The West Somerset Railway offers accessibility for visitors with limited mobility. Ramps are available to assist boarding.
Wheelchair spaces are available at certain times, so please contact us in advance to discuss availability.
We encourage all visitors with mobility requirements to get in touch with us beforehand, so we can ensure your journey is as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.
