Flying Scotsman Legendary Journeys (Yorkshire)

Event Summary
Fox & Edwards Events have teamed up with the North Yorkshire Moors to bring you Legendary Journeys with the World famous LNER A3 'Flying Scotsman' steam locomotive. Be sure to book your tickets for this unforgettable trip early to avoid disappointment!
Experience the thrill of riding behind the World's first steam locomotive to reach 100mph! Weighing 97 tons and measuring 70ft long, this Doncaster-built legend is back home in Yorkshire for a limited period of time this Autumn.
Built in 1923 by the LNER, 'Flying Scotsman' has had a lengthy and varied history; from performing the first non-stop run between London and Edinburgh in 1928 to breaking the record in 1934. Even after retirement in 1963, the story continued with the locomotive being overhauled in time to celebrate 40 years since the non-stop run with a recreation in 1968.
'Flying Scotsman' operated in the United States of America in 1969, delighting local crowds, however it was financially disasterous for the private owner and she was marooned in the USA! It is thanks to William McAlpine that we can enjoy the locomotive today after he successfully put together a rescue plan and brought her home in 1973.
After overhaul, 'Flying Scotsman' went to Australia for a period, making it the first locomotive to circumnavigate the globe on it's voyage there and back. She set a new record whilst in Australia for the longest non-stop run ever for a steam locomotive at 422 miles!
In 2004 a campaign by the National Railway Museum secured a £1.8m grant from the National Heritage Memorial Fund and the generosity of the public to restore the locomotive. Restoration was completed with the aid of a £275,000 grant from the National Lottery Fund.
Her most recent overhaul was completed in 2016 and she has been delighting members of the public, like you, ever since on both mainline tours and on preserved railways. Undoubtedly one of the jewels in the crown of railway history, it is here to captivate fans young and old for years to come.
