Flying Scotsman Footplate Visit (Nottinghamshire)

Event Summary
The World famous Flying Scotsman locomotive is visiting the Great Central Railway Nottingham at Nottingham Transport Heritage Centre's Ruddington site, near Nottingham, in May 2026.
We have the fantastic opportunity for you to visit the footplate of this legendary locomotive in the specially-dressed engine shed.
Tickets are sold individually in 30 minute slots, with time on the footplate being between 10-15 minutes. Don't forget to bring your camera.
Each person will receive a commemorative brochure as a souvenir of your visit too!
Whilst you're there, don't forget to take a look around the rest of the Nottingham Transport Heritage Centre too!
Important Note:
This is a static experience which occurs when Flying Scotsman is resting in the engine shed. Visitors on this experience do not travel on the train.
Frequently Asked Questions
Flying Scotsman is a steam locomotive that is over 100 years old. Visitors to the footplate need to be advised that there are a small number of steps to enter and exit the footplate. The space inside the footplate is small.
The engine shed is wheelchair accessible however access to the footplate will not be possible for wheelchair users.
Visitors should consider their own requirements before booking this experience.
A paid ticket is required for visitors aged 5 through to adult.
Under 5's are free of charge when accompanied on the footplate by an adult ticket holder.
Visitors under the age of 16 must be accompanied by another adult ticket holder.
Refreshments will be available at the Nottingham Transport Heritage Centre to purchase.
These experiences operate on a day when Flying Scotsman is appearing statically in the engine shed. Flying Scotsman is not running on these dates. Tickets do not include a train journey.
We recommend securing your ticket online as spaces are limited however any remaining spaces will be available to purchase on the door.
