Fox & Edwards Events is a business working with heritage railways right around the UK to attract new visitors through themed journeys with fish & chips, cream teas, licensed characters, Christmas and more. In 2024, we have welcomed over 50,000 visitors from Scotland to Kent and our expansion is supporting this central new role.
We are seeking to recruit a full time Roaming Event Lead to lead our journeys at our partner railways all around the UK. The role will involve travelling to our partner railways throughout the season and leading the event including managing a small team of event staff, leading the visitor experience on the day, managing included items and ensuring that all visitors have a wonderful time.

It is important for the successful candidate to have their own transport and be based within the East Midlands. It is anticipated that one day per week during the season (and more off season) will be based at the company office in Derbyshire. The role will require the candidate to travel to host railways most weeks during the February to December season and involve staying locally for the duration of the event (1, 2 or 3 nights).
A typical working week may be:
Wednesday - Office day (preparing for the weekend, seating lists etc)
Thursday - Running trips in the East Midlands or in our office.
Friday - Shorter day, travelling to a railway
Saturday - Run event on site & stay over
Sunday - Run event and travel back
This is not fixed as calendar and seasonality can alter it.
We work with heritage railways all around the UK and therefore the role presents the opportunity for the successful candidate to travel and stay over in Central Scotland, South Wales, Kent, Sussex, Hampshire, Tyneside and more…
Hours of work:
Role is nominally 37.5 hours per week. Most trips operate at weekends and bank holidays, however and therefore the working week would nominally be Wednesday to Sunday.
Hours are flexible to cover longer days at events, balanced with shorter days on office days.
Rate of pay:
£29,250 gross pa.
Your travelling and accommodation expenses nationally are covered, excluding days locally in the East Midlands.
Equipment and Training:
Training will be provided on site. Branded clothing and a name badge will be provided for this public facing role. Materials, such as a clipboard, will be provided too.
Incentives:
A £50 gift voucher at Christmas (subject to working a minimum of 5 days in the year leading up to Christmas).

- Setting up events on site, including the labelling of seating, on site facilities set up etc;
- Leading a team of Event Coordinators to ensure all necessary roles are covered and the team is briefed;
- Liaising with local railway staff and volunteers;
- Meeting and greeting our guests;
- Dynamically reacting to issues and making a decision in the best interest of the visitor;
- Answering visitor queries;
- Packdown including ensuring the site is left tidy;
- Managing seating allocation lists and dynamically responding to any urgent changes;
- Assisting with the production of seating allocation lists;
- Ensuring adequate stocks of items required for the event;

- Be polite, courteous and enthusiastic;
- Be independent and confident;
- Be reliable;
